HARRA 500 - Guaranteed Marathon RegistrationThe Chevron Houston Marathon is a very popular event with more runners wanting to run than the course can support. For the 2013 event, runners who have completed five (5) or more Houston Marathons have a guaranteed registration into the Marathon. Depending on your qualifying time, you may also have a guaranteed registration.
Other runners are entered into a lottery to allocate the remaining registrations. If you enter the lottery, you may or may not be able to register. The HARRA 500 program provides a way to bypass the lottery (“lottery exemption”). If you are accepted into the program, you will also be given a guaranteed registration. The purpose of the HARRA 500 program is to identify runners who contribute to the Houston running community. In order to do that, we’ll ask questions about your running and volunteer activities. To get started with the HARRA 500 program, click on On-line application to the HARRA 500 registration link. Note that the lottery starts on June 6th – after the HARRA 500 program awards registrations. So, if you apply for HARRA 500 and are not selected you can still apply for the lottery.
The HARRA 500 program is open for registration until May 23. Runners whose applications show superior qualifications will be accepted into the program on an on-going basis and notified by email on May 11 and May 18. The remaining applications will then be evaluated with final awards made on or before May 27. Applicants who have not been admitted into the program will also be notified at that time and may wish to enter the lottery program starting June 6th. Approved applicants for the HARRA 500 program will be given a registration code that is valid until midnight May 31. You must register at the Marathon web site before the expiration date.
You can get more information on the HARRA 500 program here, or if you are a Qualified Runner, go here to register.
