Reports of Directors and committees:

V.P. of Communications

Open at this time. A candidate will be discussed later.

Membership Committee - Annie Hadow

Membership is currently at 461. There are more that have signed up but need to be tabulated and entered. Annie also showed some of the new “lite” applications to be used for packet stuffing and handing out at events.  Houston Fit has also requested HARRA representatives to be present at one of their meetings.

V.P. Of Clubs – Roger Boak

It’s summer and not much is going on at the present time. Randy commented that Sean Smith would approach the board about a proposal for a spring cross country run to become a HARRA event in the spring series.

Roger has looked into new awards for the Ironfoot Series and it looks as if the socks are a go. They be about $4.50-$5.00 a pair with printing. Bill Dubinsky made a motion to approve $750 expenditure for the socks. It was seconded and approved unanimously.

V.P. of Road Race Management: Randy Carlson

Randy briefly discussed the loss of the Bazosport run and introduced Jay Lee to address us about a likely replacement 10M run in Clear Lake. Jay turned the discussion over to Jana Landry. Jana elaborated on the details of the run. It will be held on October 5, 2003. It is a 10 mile road race that starts and finishes at the U of H campus in Clear Lake. It is comprised of 1 loop and the course will be certified. Although a name has not been established, they are thinking of something akin to the Space City 10 Miler. The permits have been obtained. USAFit has pledged their support of the event and will help with promoting it. The race will be held on a Sunday (the day after the Race for the Cure) and will not interfere with the 20K, which is on the 19th.

They are proposing that the event be part of the HARRA Fall Series. There was some discussion about concerns of a new run being included in the series. John and others pointed out the experience that this goop has had organizing races in the Clear Lake area. Jay Lee briefly reviewed his qualifications. There was agreement to make this a run a part of the fall series. John pledged the support of HARRA and wished them luck.

They also discussed a second event, a mile run for the spring series for the second weekend in May. It would be a short run that a lot of runners seem to like doing. There was a little less enthusiasm for this event and John pointed out that HARRA had tried this about 5 years ago. The event was poorly attended drawing maybe 300 runners. The board decided to think about this one and discuss it further at a later date.

Gregg Felts reported that the relay would be held on September 20th. John Phillips suggested that they might consider something flatter for this event, such as a golf course.

Treasurer – Audrey Christiansen

Audrey went over her financial statement. A few bills were turned in and some checks written. As discussed at the budget meeting, every attempt would be made to reduce the size of FootPrints.

Equipment – Tom McBrayer

Tom reported that the Terry Fox run was cancelled and that the Fine Arts Run was also cancelled. This would result in the loss of equipment revenues.

Power in Motion: Noah Matthews

The new flyers are out and plans are established for the fall season. The first race will be the Run for the Saints for the fall season. Applications are on the website.

New Business

A letter has been sent to Hermann Memorial health Care for support of the Kid’s Run and John showed the new logos to the group.

John then introduced the new candidate for the newsletter editor, Susan Redwine. She just completed basic training where she was trained in journalism, everything from grammar to design and photography. There was considerable discussion about responsibilities and amount of work. She would think about it and get back to John when she made her decision.

Meeting adjourned at 7:50.

Respectfully submitted,

Bill Dubinsky
