December 16, 2003

Members present:

Roger Boak, Bill Dubinsky, John Phillips, Noah Mathews and Audrey Christiansen.

Others Present:

            Roy Lira

Reading of the minutes:

The meeting was called to order at 6:08 PM.

Reports of Directors and committees:

V.P. Of Clubs – Roger Boak

Runner of the season through the 30K has been compiled and will be submitted.

Kids Run – Roy Lira

The Kids Run was a great success. There were about 338 runners that signed up and ran the races. The club was very pleased with the event and the turnout. There was some discussion about particulars, but the Roy offered the clubs services again next year and there was general agreement around the table that the job was well done. The club will try and increase the numbers by having more pre-race publicity and trying to reach some other venues.

Power in Motion – Noah Mathews

The fall session of PIM was completed and Noah reported one of the best years yet. Thee were 210 runners – not the largest number of sign ups, but one of the greatest %retention of runners for the full term. A very enthusiastic group of runners and coaches. This has led to an unofficial continuation of the meetings on Wednesday by both coaches and runners to encourage continued participation in the sport of running. There seemed to be a lot of camaraderie, which strengthened the bonds between the runners.

Membership Committee - Annie Hadow

Membership remains active. We currently have 1301 members, which means we've
added or renewed 332 members since last meeting. Last year at this time, we had 1427 members, so we are slowly closing the gap created by the membership extension.

Annie reported difficulty in getting member information posted on the website and offered that she would be willing to do it herself

Treasurer’s Report – Audrey Christiansen

The Kids Run was the major financial activity over the last month and we’ll get final numbers shortly. There was also continued good membership activity.

Newsletter – John Phillips

John reported that the first issue of the Inside Texas Running edition of the newsletter would be coming out in February. They were unable to get out the January issue due to the short notice for contributions. January 1 is the deadline for the next issue. The details regarding the costs, advertising and distribution have not been finalized as of this time.

Roger said he would contact the clubs about the club corner contributions. There was some discussion about the gathering of information and mechanism of transmittal. John appointed Roy Lira as a voting board member to serve as editor/director of the new enterprise. The appointment was unanimously approved by a vote of the board. Roy Lira is the official interface between HARRA and ITR.

New Business

Roger initiated a discussion about the Finisher’s towels. There was some discussion, since there are always so many extra towels after the marathon, and the distribution is almost impossible. We decided to order 250 towels with a message to the members that if they want a towel they have to pick them up at the marathon.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:20

Respectfully submitted,

Bill Dubinsky
