Party in the Park—Recap

The feedback on Party in the Park was very positive, and the group discussed organizational suggestions to make next year’s event even better.

New HARRA Benefit

Laurie Johnson with Affiliates in Physical Therapy (4219 Richmond, #100) discussed a free clinic for athletic injuries she will be offering to HARRA members.  Members may show up at her office any Friday between 1 and 5 p.m. for a free consultation.  No appointments are necessary.  Non-HARRA members who wish to take advantage of the clinic may still show up, but Laurie will require that they join HARRA prior to obtaining the consultation.  She will not be able to provide treatments during these sessions, but she can help identify problems and make suggestions for obtaining treatment.

Race Review—Cross Country Relay

Jaime Rodriguez reviewed the status of the race’s compliance with HARRA’s race requirements.

Memorial Park Track—Rebuilding Efforts

It was reported that Randy Carlson has spoken with the City of Houston and also looked into the possibility of obtaining a grant from Nike to help fund the rebuilding of the Memorial Park track.  The cost of a new track will be approximately $230,000-$265,000, depending on the number of lanes.

Just for Kids Run

$7,000-$8,000 in sponsorship money is still needed for this event, and efforts to find a replacement for Memorial Hermann continue.

Practice for the Tour

Roger reported that City Sports magazine will be sponsoring this year’s Practice for the Tour.

Marathon Kids Program—Update

Volunteers from HARRA are still needed for this Program, which will be kicked off at Rice on 10/22/05.

Water Fountain Committee—Update

Katrina discussed the ongoing attempts to contact people involved in both the River Oaks Homeowners’ Association and the River Oaks Garden Club to build support for the water fountain project.  These efforts will continue.

RRCA

Doug Spence announced that this year’s RRCA convention is coming to Houston, which will be the same weekend as the Bayou City Classic race.  This should be a great opportunity for both the city and the running community.

Running Trails

It was reported that Tx DOT’s intention is to put in a crushed granite trail along the northbound 610 feeder running from Woodway past the Bayou.  It is not 100% certain that this will happen, but it is currently in the plan.  It will be done once the work on 610 is near completion, which should be approximately January 2008.
