Harra MEeting Minutes – April 24, 2006
Club Competition: Two runners who have been participating in the Spring Series but live outside of the county guidelines for the series. One runner is Alan Hedgren and the other is Marcille Paul. After considering the circumstances of both runners, the board voted 5-2 to allow both runners to participate in the series this Spring. The runners must re-petition the board for an exemption in the Fall if they intend to participate in the Fall series.
Spring Banquet: The board discussed potential banquet locations, dates, and speakers. Anna Sumrall-Helm and Darlene Miller agreed to undertake the initial planning of the banquet.
Power in Motion: HARRA has been organizing the Power in Motion program with much success. Both the runners and the coaches have been enjoying the experience.
Tour De Bayou: The Tour de Bayou has been very successful to date with 175 average runners per stage.
Just for Kids Run: The Just for Kids Run will likely be organized by the Houston Running Bloggers. The Houston Running Bloggers and the Memorial Park Running Club will discuss the hand off of the event.
Law Week 8k and LP Run: Both races were run successfully this Spring without any problems or issues.
Officers & Directors 2006-2007: The board was reminded that May 15 is the cut off date to run for a position on next years board.
Spring Series 2006-07: The board thought that the 2006 Spring Series has been successful to date. Bill Crich & Bruce Mansur agreed to discuss the races and race dates with the directors in order to make recommendations for the 2007 Spring Series.
Membership: HARRA has 1650 members which is 150 more than the previous year. 100 have signed up to renew for the 2006-2007 year.
Treasury: Both HARRA and PIM are running at a surplus this year.
VVIP: The board recapped the Volunteer Appreciation Picnic and thought it was a great success. The board considered this to be an event that could be grown to become even more successful in the future.
Texas Course Certifications: Tom McBrayer reported that Texas leads the nation again this year in certified courses. Based upon the number of finishers, Houston is the 15th largest marathon in the nation.
Tri On the Run: Jay Lee reported the opening of the new TRI On The Run store on Memorial. Tri On the Run will offer a 10% discount for all HARRA members.
AED Program: Based upon changes in the CPR guidelines, Dr. Hoekman will begin a retraining the AED volunteers in Spring 2006.
