MINUTES FROM THE HOUSTON AREA ROAD RUNNERS ASSOCIATION
BOARD MEETING
NOVEMEBER 20, 2006
The following people were in attendance: Anna Helm, Eddie Rodriguez, Jon Walk, Bob Hoekman, Tom McBrayer, Cheryl Esposito, and Annie Hadow.
Anna called the meeting to order at 6:10.
30K: Anna presented documentation provided by Andy Stewart that the 30K is prepared to meet the HARRA race requirements.
25K Recap: All in attendance agreed that the race appeared to go smoothly. Tom informed the group that attendance was down by about 13% this year.
Activity Updates:
Just For Kids Run: Anna reported that both Sean Wade and Darlene Miller have contacted her about directing the race, so there is interest for next year.
Footprints: Jon informed the group that the December final edit was completed yesterday and he is getting ready for the January issue. Jon is pleased that there was good response and participation for Club Reports for the December issue.
Membership: Anna reported for Erin that HARRA has been at the past couple of races. Erin will send an updated roster to Sarah to post on the website this week.
Treasurer’s Report: Audrey was unable to make it to today’s meeting and will send out an updated Treasurer’s report in the near future.
Website: Jon reported for Sarah that she is working to correct the Run O Matic Route Finder. She is also thinking of ideas to draw people to the site.
PIM: Bob reported that PIM is complete for 2006, although Jack is extending the program during the off season at no additional charge for interested runners. There was a dropoff in attendance for the first time runners over the course of the program. Bob informed the group that there was an AED at each PIM session this fall.
VVIP: Cheryl reported that she will write up a report about the VVIP Program for the January Footprints. She is also working on getting gift cards for the 2005 winners.
Member Discount Program: Anna reported for Sarah that there are no updates on the Member Discount Program.
CPR/AED: Bob informed the group that he has been busy buying extra radios and mannequins on eBay. Having an extra mannequin means that he will have one for every three trainees, which will allow him to train six people at a time instead of three.
New Business:
The group revisited the issue surrounding safer road racing, which came to light due to a lawsuit involving a small town race in Texas. RRCA solicited information from HARRA. Paul Cooley and Bob Hoekman submitted input to RRCA.
Anna mentioned that she had been approached by a group of Austin runners interested in forming an umbrella organization modeled after HARRA. She shared information with them on how HARRA is structured and the influence HARRA has over safety and management of the HARRA series races.
There was no additional business to discuss. Anna adjourned the meeting at 7:00.
