MINUTES FROM THE HOUSTON AREA ROAD RUNNER'S ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING,

FEBRUARY 19, 2007

The following people were in attendance: John Mohr, Eddie Rodriguez, Bob Hoekman, Tom McBrayer, Audrey Christiansen, Camille Yarbrough, Erin Foley, Roger Boak, Anna Helm and Annie Hadow.

Anna called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.

Bayou City Classic: Camille demonstrated that the race is prepared to meet the HARRA Race requirements. Audrey has the 2006 tax statement. Dr. Hoekman added that there will be 6 or so CPR/AED volunteers on the race course.

Race Recap:

Park to Park Run: Tom indicated that the race requested the HARRA equipment at the last minute and that some of it still has not been accounted for. Tom mentioned that the course was altered slightly from how he measured it. The idea of having an HARRA club work with the race next year was raised. Overall this is seen as a good race that we would like to keep as part of the HARRA Spring Series, so we are willing to work them. Buffalo Wallow:  The Buffalo Wallow appeared to go smoothly. Roger added that they could use more course marshalls.

Just For Kids Run: Anna is going to contact Chris Rampacek concerning the Board's questions about what he envisions his and HARRA's roles would be if he were to become Race Director.

Footprints: Anna reported for Jon. In the April issue there is going to be a 2 page feature on the Seymour Liberman Trail. Inside Texas Running subscriptions correspond with the HARRA membership year. We really need to communicate that as we approach the end of the membership year.  The Houston Chronicle blog is going well. Jon is still working on expanding the current list of VVIP points eligible jobs.

Membership: Erin reported that we currently have 1588 members, 600 of whom are new this membership year.

Treasurer's Report: Audrey reported that there was not much activity in January. We have paid our dues to the RRCA.

Website: Anna reported for Sarah that we are up to date.

Tour De Bayou: Roger announced that TdB will begin on the first Tuesday in April and will run for 5 weeks. Trivantage has stepped up to offer support this year since RunSport closed. Jay Lee from On The Run is interested in supporting as well. Roger is going to check with Jay to see if he'd be interested in sharing support with Trivantage. Roger announced that the Marathon finisher's towels have arrived and that he is planning to distribute them at the Bayou City Classic.

PIM: Anna reported for Jack. PIM will kick off the spring session on March 7. Jack is focusing on getting speakers for upcoming meetings. The target race will be the Cinco de Mayo 5K.  Jack and Dr. Bob were recently on the radio for a one hour show about PIM. Dr. Bob and Stacy Pyle are going to be on TV introducing PIM in the near future as well.

Memorial Park Conservancy: no report.

Family Fun Day: Anna reported for Mark that this is still scheduled for May 12.

VVIP and Member Discount Programs: no report

Club Report: Roger suggested that we include trail maintenance as part of the expanding VVIP points eligible jobs list. Roger's assistant will handle.

Club Updates: John, as a representative of the Pearland Running Club, announced that he is planning a 5K for Pearland Fit and Run Strong to use as a fitness gauge at the beginning of the training programs. He will get back to us with the details as they are confirmed.

Tom announced that the Half Marathon course was validated, so Ryan Hall's American Record is in place. He asked what people thought about the new start lines this year. Those in attendance who ran either the half or the full Marathon seemed to like it.

CPR/AED: Dr Hoekman reported that the program is going well. He has recently taught 3 certification courses and has another coming up, specifically for PIM coaches. He recently updated his volunteer list, removing inactives.

There was no additional business to discuss. Anna adjourned the meeting at 7:10
