MINUTES FROM THE HOUSTON AREA ROAD RUNNERS ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING
JULY 12, 2007
The following people were in attendance: Anna Helm, Audrey Christiansen, Manny Valle, Jon Walk, Stephen Mayor, Randy Carlson, Tom McBrayer, Mark Fraser, Annie Hadow, Bill Dwyer, Roger Boak, and Jaime Rodriguez.
Anna called the meeting to order at 6:05 P.M.
Just For Kids Run: Randy informed the group that the Chevron Houston Marathon is considering stepping up as sponsor. The Marathon Committee will vote on it on Wednesday. Jon reported that he is busy working to determine which permits are needed and which areas of the Park we need to secure for the event. The Board will move forward with race planning as we have in the past until we have more commitment from Chris. Audrey agreed to follow up with Jon regarding prior carryover donations.
Party in the Park: Anna reminded the group that this event is scheduled for August 25 from 8-10 AM. Anna assigned various tasks such as obtaining food donations, ensuring tent arrival, DJ, permits, signage. etc. Anna proposed that we offer a $5 discount on dues for that weekend. The Board approved contingent upon Erin & Sarah being able to set up the temporary discount through Memberize.
Activity Updates:
Footprints: John reported that he is currently planning the September issue.
Membership: Anna reported for Erin. We currently have 867 active members v. 861 at this time last year. Erin is working to get PIM registration set up on the HARRA website.
Website: no updates at this time.
Treasurer’s Report: Audrey reported that June revenue was strong due to membership renewals. We had some big expenses related to the banquet and ROTS hit in June also.
Awards & Trails: Roger advised that he is currently working with Jerry Fuqua regarding the shoes Puma committed for awards for the Tour de Bayou. Roger attended an elite athlete meeting and found out that the Marathon is looking for volunteers to assist with the elites on Marathon weekend. On another note, the Practice for the Tour series is scheduled for 4 Tuesdays, beginning on first Tuesday in October.
PIM: Manny reported that the start date will be September 5. This session’s goal race is the Run with the Saints on November 10. Manny will check with Jack to see if any additional volunteers are needed.
VVIP: Anna announced that she and Bruce would like to have the 2007 winners posted on the HARRA website. Anna will follow up with Sarah on this. Bruce reported that he will get with Cheryl for specifics on the points system.
Member Discount Program: Anna reported for Gloria. Gloria is in the process of following up with existing businesses who participate in the Member Discount Program to update their contact information and to gather comments and suggestions on how to improve the program.
CPR/AED: No report.
Club Updates: Mark your calendars for the HMSA Ugly Foot Contest and Mystery Run at the Picnic Loop on July 22!
