MINUTES FROM THE HOUSTON AREA ROAD RUNNERS ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING

JANUARY 19, 2009

The following people were in attendance: Jay Hendrickson, JoAnn Luco, Annie Hadow, Anna Helm, Ann Hibbert, Helen Grant, Bob Hoekman, Jennifer Brown, Roger Boak, Erin Foley, and Audrey Christiansen.

Anna called the meeting to order at 6:05

Marathon Recap: Anna initiated conversation about the marathon. Bob noted that the signage indicated red and white corrals for the marathon, not red and blue. The corrals were red and white last year, so accurate signage should be addressed. Jen observed that they need more massage therapists and that the opening gap in the half marathon corral was too small to accommodate the number of runners needing to get through. Otherwise, everything appeared to go smoothly.

Buffalo Wallow: Anna presented for Cindy. The race is prepared to meet the HARRA race requirements. In addition, there will be team awards this year, to be scored like scholastic cross country races. Anna will find out from Cindy what the team compositions are.

Footprints: Anna spoke for Jon, who filed an e-mail report.  Jon reported that the February 2009 issue of Footprints has been proofed and signed off on. It features 11 club reports, Dr. Bob’s column “Strike Up Your IT Band”, race coverage of the 30K, listing of all runners to complete the first four races of the Fall Series and those runners who were in the money hunt for Runner of The Season leading up to the marathon. For the March issue, Jon plans to cover HARRA runners in the CHM and related events and to do a promo piece on the Bayou City Classic. Lastly, Jon’s goal is to try to keep the Houston Chronicle running blog current and has had an offer from Gabriel Rodriguez to assist with that endeavor.

Membership: Helen reported that we have 1420 members. Renewal and sign up activity has slowed down, giving her time to clean up the database. We still have a few issues such as members not receiving HARRA e-mails or their Inside Texas Running, which Helen is looking into.

Treasurer’s Report: Audrey advised that our RRCA dues have been sent.  She paid about $3,000 in Kids’ Run expenses in December. There are still 3 clubs that she has not received club dues from – InFlight, Team in Training, and Terlingua.

Website: Jay announced that there has been a problem with the news blog, which he has been working to correct. He will add a link to PIM registration shortly as well.

RoTS: Roger advised that he should have the RoTS results completed by this weekend. He is still waiting on the Cross Country relay to compile the Team Standings.

Tour de Bayou: Roger mentioned that it has been suggested that we move the Tour de Bayou to Thursday afternoons. The Board considered and discussed. Roger moved that we try having the Tours de Bayou on Thursday afternoons in April 2009. Anna seconded. The Board approved.

Power In Motion: no report

VVIP: no report

Member Discount Program: no report

CPR/AED: Bob announced that he is set to start training for new team members. Given the new Tour de Bayou schedule, he will try to start in February. Bob asked that a CPR/AED training and information reminder be distributed via the HARRA e-mail.

Open Discussion: Bob reported that the Trails Committee met recently. New signage went up this week at the Tennis Center and rugby fields announcing that the groundbreaking for the footbridge will be in February. Completion of the bridge is targeted for late 2009. The pavers and the remodel of the Tennis Center are on the project list for the next 6 months. Also, there will be a rule for the South trails that when a trail is closed, it is closed – to bikers and runners alike. Penalty is getting ticketed. This could affect the Tour de Bayou. This rule is scheduled to go in effect in the next month or two.

There was no further business to discuss. Anna adjourned the meeting at 7PM.
