MINUTES FROM THE HOUSTON AREA ROAD RUNNERS ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING

FEBRUARY 16, 2009

 

 

The following people were in attendance: Bob Hoekman, Ann Hibbert, Roger Boak, Anna Helm, Helen Grant, Audrey Christiansen, Jen Brown, Annie Hadow, Andrea Patterson, Jay Hendrickson, Tom McBrayer, Scott Dorfman, Eddie Rodriguez, and Joe Carey.

 

The meeting was held at Beck’s Prime, Memorial Park. Anna called the meeting to order at 6:05.

 

Buffalo Wallow: The first item of business was to recap the Buffalo Wallow. All agreed that the race went smoothly.

 

Park To Park Run: Scott Dorfman, Race Director, advised that they have improved the registration process this year. The race will have a new start at Discovery Green. Scott demonstrated that the race is prepared to meet the HARRA race requirements.

 

Bayou City Classic 10K: Packet stuffing for the Bayou City Classic was happening concurrently. The Bayou City Classic committee verified that they are prepared to meet the HARRA race requirements.

 

HARRA Member Appreciation Party: Annie reminded everyone that this will immediately follow the Bayou Bash Relay on May 2nd. The relay begins at 3 PM, with the party kicking off at 4 PM. Annie will help to coordinate from the ALRC side.

 

Footprints: No report

 

Membership: Helen reported that activity has been very light. We currently have 1440 members.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Audrey advised that the Bayou City Classic moved the 2008 race proceeds to the Trails Fund account. Team in Training and In Flight haven’t paid their club dues, so are not active HARRA clubs at this point. In addition, we have paid all of the expenses related to the Kids Run, but we haven’t received the pledged sponsorship money from the Houston Marathon. Anna advised that she is having thank you plaques made for the JFK Run sponsors. Plaques will be given out at the Bayou City Classic.

 

Website: Jay announced that he has posted the Fall ROTS standings and a quick link to the Bayou City Classic website. He is currently working on updating the daily run info, which is very outdated. He offered that he is open to new ideas for the website, so please let him know if you have any.

 

ROTS/Club/Team: Roger committed to having the Club standings calculated in time to announce at the Bayou City Classic and to prepare the plaques. The venues for the Tours de Bayou are as follows. Subject to change if trails closure rules apply on scheduled dates for the Ho Chi Minh runs:

1.      McLatchie course across from AIG

2.      Spotts Park

3.      White Oak

4.      Ho Chi Minh

5.      Ho Chi Minh

 

Ironfoot Awards: Anna will order the Fall Ironfoot singlets with intent to award at the Bayou City Classic.

 

PIM: No report. Bob added that the first PIM session is scheduled for March 2.

 

CPR/AED: Bob advised that he is doing CPR/AED training for PIM coaches. He is doing a total of 5 courses this month.

 

VVIP: No report.

 

Member Discount Program: No report.

 

Club Reports/ Other Business:

 

Anna suggested forming a trails subcommittee (HARRA) to help MPC clear trails.

 

Anna announced that she and Jen will be representing HARRA at the RRCA Convention. Anna and Jen are open to suggestions for which seminars we’d like to see them attend.

 

Anna added that it’s time to start thinking about the 2009-10 Board.

 

There was no additional business to discuss. Anna adjourned the meeting at 7:05.
